Create Tasks

Create Tasks “generates a task checklist based on the ticket’s requests”. A new-starter request asking for a laptop, a mailbox and a Microsoft 365 licence gets a task for each. To use it, tick Create Tasks on a board (how). You need the Admin access level.

While Create Tasks is ticked, it shows a choice, Create tasks:

Choice Tasks are created
Always “Whenever the ticket needs at least one task.”
Only for multiple tasks “Only when the ticket needs two or more, so a simple request does not get a task that repeats it.”

A board never given a choice uses Always. The choice is saved at once, can be set while the board is off, and is kept when you untick Create Tasks and tick it again. It decides only whether the proposed tasks are kept, not which tasks are proposed.

In Live, it adds the tasks to the ConnectWise ticket as ticket tasks, in order. They appear in the ticket’s Tasks in ConnectWise and in MTX. The proposal:

  • holds one to ten tasks, each one line of plain text of at most 200 characters;
  • holds no task twice;
  • holds no task for an issue that Split Tickets moved to a new ticket.

A task cannot be assigned, scheduled or dated. In Preview, the tasks appear only in the note.

  • Nothing in the ticket needs a task.
  • The board is set to Only for multiple tasks and the ticket needs one task. A task proposed twice, differing only in case or spacing, counts once.
  • The ticket was already bundled under, or merged into, another ticket when it was processed. That ticket’s tasks cover its work.

If ConnectWise refuses a task, the others are still created, and the note’s first line counts only those created.

The note’s first line lists 3 Tasks created in Live, or 3 Tasks in Preview. Its bullet, Tasks, numbers each task.

Write instructions for Create Tasks on Global Instructions or on the board (how). For example:

  • “For every new-starter request, add a task to confirm the start date and line manager with the customer.”
  • On an onboarding board: “Every onboarding ticket needs tasks for the AD account, the Microsoft 365 licence and the laptop build.”

Create Tasks is not told who is on call or who owns the ticket, so “assign every task to whoever is on call” cannot work.
