How TravelSync plans travel
When it runs
Section titled “When it runs”TravelSync plans a technician’s travel for a day when one of their schedule entries for that day changes, and the entry:
- is for a ticket or an activity;
- is today or later;
- is at a ConnectWise schedule location marked as on-site; and
- has a real start and end.
It runs when such an entry is added, changed, moved or removed, and when a future travel entry is deleted. It replans the whole day each time, so travel stays right as appointments move.
Where each visit is
Section titled “Where each visit is”TravelSync places a ticket’s visit at the ticket’s site, or at the company’s address. An activity’s visit is at its company, its ticket, or its opportunity’s site. Back-to-back entries at the same address count as one visit.
The entries it writes
Section titled “The entries it writes”- Travel To ends when the on-site visit starts.
- Travel From starts when the visit ends, but only when no other on-site visit starts within 90 minutes. When one does, the next visit’s Travel To sets out from this client instead, and no Travel From is written.
- Travel entries for visits that no longer exist are deleted, unless time has been entered against them.
- Travel a technician has already started with MTX’s travel timers is left to MTX.
Each travel entry is written closed (done), at the visit’s location, with a description such as:
To Big Design, Inc.From Office25 Minutes12 Miles19 KilometersOffice or home
Section titled “Office or home”TravelSync predicts where a technician sets out from:
- With only an office or only a home known, it uses that one.
- A member marked as working from home sets out from home.
- On a day off, home.
- With both known, it compares the drive times with the technician’s working day (their MTX availability, their ConnectWise calendar, or 9:00 to 17:00). An appointment early in the day, where going via the office would make them late, starts from home; an appointment ending near the end of the day sends them home afterwards.
How long the drive is
Section titled “How long the drive is”TravelSync asks Google Maps for the driving time and distance between the two addresses, and sizes the entry from it:
| Driving time | Travel entry |
|---|---|
| Under 5 minutes | None |
| 5 to 10 minutes | 10 minutes |
| 10 to 15 minutes | 20 minutes |
| Over 15 minutes | The driving time rounded up to 5 minutes, plus 10 minutes |
| 6 hours or more | None |
| No route found | 1 hour, described as Default One Hour Travel Block |
Miles and kilometers are rounded up to whole numbers. A drive between the same two addresses is remembered, so it is not looked up again.
