Sync a multi-company directory

Some directories hold several companies: one Active Directory with an OU per company, or one Microsoft 365 / Entra ID tenant shared by sister companies. In ConnectWise each is its own company. ConnectActive syncs them with one connection to the directory and a filter per company.

Add the first company and connect the shared directory as usual: Add a company, then Microsoft 365 or Active Directory. This company holds the connection (the consent or the PowerShell script) for all of them.

  1. Click Add Company and choose the next ConnectWise company.
  2. In Select Sync Method, under Use an Existing Sync Company, choose the first company in Select Sync Company. The new company reuses its connection: no second consent, no second script.
  3. On the new company’s Settings, set its filter so it syncs only its own users (Filter which users sync):
    • Active Directory: OU Filtering, ticking the company’s OUs.
    • Microsoft 365 / Entra ID: Filtering, ticking the company’s groups or licenses, or a dynamic group such as its email domain.
  4. Perform and commit the company’s first sync (Review and commit a sync).

Filter the first company the same way, so it does not sync the other companies’ users.

A company that is already set up can switch to another company’s connection with Use Other Company for Sync (For Multi-Tenant) in its Sync Settings.

A group, license or OU mapping counts all of its members, whichever company they belong to. To count only the company’s own users, tick Limit to Filtered Users on the mapping. A company with several sources can also limit a mapping to one source with Limit to Source (Mapping options).
